Cons of Full Head Weaves

$

Though a full head weave has advantages, it has many disadvantages as well. These have to be carefully looked at and solutions sought to remedy them before one installs a full head weave. Weaves are a great protective style but if care is not taken, it can result in massive hair breakage and hair loss. To be forewarned is to be forearmed so before you install your next full head weave, these are a few things you should take note of:

Painful to Install:  Well, this is relative but most braiders do not have "soft" hands. If you do not tell the braider to loosen their grip, you will end up having to deal with throbbing headaches for sometimes up to a week especially if you have a sensitive scalp. Not to talk about the sleepless nights you may have to endure for the first few nights. I have never unistalled braids due to pain; (I'm hard on myself after sitting for 2 hours or more to get them done) but I have a few friends who just couldn't stand the pain and ended up undoing their braids and weaves the same day. Always politely ask a braider to loosen their grip else you may end up with bald patches and thin edges.

Circular weave tracks.

Neglect of Proper Hair Care: This is the biggest disadvantage of full head weaves. This style offers little room for manipulation hence the tendency to totally leave one's real hair alone is very great. Many leave the weave in for more than 6 weeks and therefore that amounts to 6 weeks of no shampooing, conditioning, treatments, moisturising & sealing, or deep conditioning. Imagine 6 weeks without caring for your hair. That is a whole lot and can cause a huge setback. If the tracks are braided in a circular way or horizontally, it leaves room for some manipulation of one's own hair, but it can be very challenging getting to the hair and scalp if the tracks are braided vertically. This may result in extremely dry and brittle hair which may break off if hair is not detangled properly after weave removal.

Can Lead to Breakage: If the tracks onto which the weave is sewn is braided vertically, it creates a "mat" style which makes it very difficult for one to apply product to the scalp or hair. Forcing the fingers through may create tension and traction leading to breakage. If one does not comb the weave gently, the pulling and tugging on the tracks can cause breakage as well. After undoing the weave and cornrows, one must detangle very carefully especially if it is left in for more than 6 weeks, else massive breakage and hair loss can result.

High Cost: Being on a weave regimen may be costly especially if one installs high quality weaves and does it often. Not to talk about the cost of "real human hair" which has become so abundant that there should be more bald headed women on the face of this earth than ever before.....lol!! Maybe walking around with wigs! Maintenance cost may also have to be factored in if one wants the weave to look flawless all the time. And, depending on one's location, the installation service alone can be a whooping sum.....usually above $50. Here in Ghana, getting a weave installed is as low as $10 in most salons......*wink*.

Weave update:
I stopped gheing for a while since the challenge is over. I simply want to wash my hair though the weave I'm wearing is synthetic. I'm going to dilute my shampoo and conditioner; and spray on the tracks. I'm also going to prepoo for about an hour with coconut oil. I'm thinking of threading the weave in order to prevent knots and tangles. If things don't go as well as I assume, I will simply undo the weave, and keep the tracks. Back to my wigs, will I go then.

Tomorrow is wash day......wish me luck!!

Have you ever installed and taken down a weave or braids the same week?

Cheers,
Star.

Wash Day: Synthetic Weave

howI woke up thinking I should just wash my hair and weave; knowing full well it could be a hair day gone bad!!

I had my pair of scissors and razor blade standing by as I parted and detangled the weave and threaded it. Just in case I need to undo the weave altogether.

I did this to prevent tangling and knotting and hoped with all my being that it would work. I then oiled my hair in the tracks with coconut oil and donned my shower cap for 30 minutes.

weave
Into the shower I went and did a shampoo wash with Palmolive Naturals Milk&Honey Shampoo (I actually love it...it mimics Creme Of Nature Detangling Shampoo).

I then applied conditioner (Reflexion Olive Oil Conditioner...not bad but nothing special) and left it in for a few minutes and rinsed it out.

I diluted both products with water as I did not want any buildup. And boy, was I glaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!!

Wash complete, curls intact!! I'm happy I took the plunge!!

Comrades, when on a healthy hair journey, drink deep or taste not.

What have you been told never to do by your hairdresser only to find out it can be done?

I will be 24 weeks (6 months) post relaxer next week and I'm feeling so good about my achievement right now I could reach the sky if I did a happy jump. I am particularly happy about the fact that I was able to do this stretch much more easily than the first stretch. I enjoyed my hair a bit more this time than the aggressive braid regimen I embarked on the last 6 month stretch. Now I am wondering if I should celebrate an anniversary by relaxing and checking how long a way I have come in a year. Yes...maybe I should. In fact, I'm convinced I should.

My hair was neck length a year ago and is now past shoulder length with a lot of new growth. I was seriously on a hair journey more than half this time. I took charge of my hair and decided it was time to grow it long.

I really wanted to do a 36 week stretch but I am wondering what more I could want from myself if not to be happy with a 24 week stretch since I am not transitioning. I've bought my length check shirt now, I still have 137 days to my APL goal and I need to check-in, don't I?

My hair life has just been so boring in the past few weeks. No cowashing, no deep conditioning, no hot oil treatments, no moisturising and sealing....and so many other No..No..Nos! I feel so sorry for my hair. I really do. I'm wondering how it is really feeling right now. Probably very thirsty, dry and brittle. That can mean only one thing. Hair detangling session is probably not going to be as incident-free as always. All the other times I had braids, I did wash as often as I wanted. I have to undo this weave in time for a protein treatment a week before the relaxer, and think up how I will style my hair for a real special occasion in the first week of September.

I have only 3 weeks! Dates must be attached pronto. And that includes a day for my product haul. I have to come up with a game plan..............................Musing!

How often do you do your hair length checks?

Star.

Never Wash until Completely Detangled

Seriously, everyone on a hair journey must heed to the signals of traffic lights in their heads before they do anything to their hair. (Rhyming in my head as I remember  kindergarten...RED means STOP, YELLOW means GET READY and GREEN means GO GO GO and GOOOOOOOOOOOOO.......!).

You have to think carefully about what you are putting into your hair, how you are putting it in; what you are doing to your hair and how you are doing it. There are many Dos and Don't s, in the Religion of Hair Care too and you need to be sure you apply all information carefully. Talk about information overload.

Before I started my hair journey, I barely even looked in the mirror throughout a session with a hairdresser. Whether it was a wash, braid removal and or relaxer service. All was simply ok once I went home with some hair on my head.

Usually, after undoing our braids, the first thing that we may plan to do is to shampoo our hair. Believe me, don't even think about  it. Hair journey or not. Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez....RED lights should flash continuously in your head should you intend to shampoo wash right after undoing your braids WITHOUT first detangling.

All the shed hair, dirt and product buildup during the time your hair was in braids or a weave is still in your hair and has definitely tangled and formed knots around the rest of your hair. Worse still, some are so tangled and matted that it seems the best thing to do is to simply cut it off. No, no you don't! All you need is time, patience and a few tools and products and you're good to go. A conditioner with great slip, water and oil is all you need. And you can make a cocktail and spray on the knots and detangle completely with your finger first before you comb through.

If you don't detangle completely to the point where a comb can easily pass through your hair without any barriers, you will end up pulling out clumps of hair with your comb. Detangling is one of the greatest DIY exercises. We all know how most hairdressers have no time to pause and detangle with their fingers. They rather comb-detangle your dry and knotted hair pulling and tugging along all the way. Results: Massive hair loss and teeny weeny, slim ponytails simply because of so much breakage.

Find below a short video to illustrate better how to detangle:

Happy detangling!!

I apologise profusely for my loooooooooooooong silence in blogworld. The past weeks have been so challenging for me as a blogger. Had so many technical problems that brought my blogging life to a standstill. First, my laptop caught a virus and I had to format it twice to get it to do anything at all. The desktop I had available would not respond to anything internet-wise I wanted to do with it. The modem seemed to work but the reception was so poor that not even google search could download. Then worse of all, my camera lens got broken......thanks to my lil photographer-in-the-making trying to help mommy out.....lol!!

Thought I could rely on my fon but no way either...couldn't write posts on the fon even though the page opened somehow. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....maybe it is time to switch to a wonder-fon that can give me all the blogworld luxuries on-the-go!!

Hair Update:
Lye relaxer I use....love results!

I haven't washed my hair in the past 2 weeks. Haven't green house effected in 2 weeks....Eiiissshh (shock)!! Shame, shame, shame on me. I just spray the tracks with my braid spray in the mornings. I intended to remove the weave last week but got swarmed by so many occasions I had to attend so I knew I wouldn't have a full week to treat my hair real good before I got my relaxer. Thankfully, my last to-go-to occasion is this Saturday and no more till mid September. That gives me a good 2 weeks to prepare for my relaxer and relax my hair. The anxiety is killing me. 24 weeks post is a looooooooooong stretch and I'm sure I have made some progress. I also really want to use the lunar hair cutting date and September seems to have so many good hair cut days...3rd to 16th...will book my relaxer on one of these days.

My length goal for the year.....hope I don't have this much breakage.

I hope my camera is repaired in time for me to take pictures and make a video on relaxer day. I'm keeping the date under wraps for now....very soon, one of my posts will show my new relaxed length. And who knows; I may reach my Armpit Length Goal 100+ days ahead of time.

Product Review: T444Z Hair Food

One of the best products I have used for my hair and totally keep as number one on my product wishlist is T444Z Hair Food. I read about this product on a blog about a year ago when I was desperately hunting for products that could grow my hair in record time as I had a cut from shoulder length to neck length. I needed to hide my hair and grow it out real fast because I had no style ideas for short hair as I had been stuck at shoulder length for years and that was my comfort zone. Being at neck length left me feeling insecure about my hair...totally vulnerable and huge feeling of nakedness. Yes, I felt naked somehow.

I decided to find more reviews online and was amazed at how much people loved the product. I got in touch with someone in the UK who agreed to send one her sister in Nigeria for me. Some great friends brought it to me here in Ghana as I had already left Lagos by the time it arrived. I read the label, smelt and felt the contents of the small jar; and that was where our love started.

T444Z Hair FoodLet's check out the ingredient list: Aloe, Herbal extract, Rose oil, Chamomile, Menthol, Rosemary Leaf Extract, Castor Oil, Peppermint, Papaya Extracts, Vitamin A, Carrot Extracts, Shea Butter and Essential Oils.

Promises: For massive hair growth, volume and thickness. Repairs hair line, stops balding, dandruff, scalp dryness, itchiness and hair loss.

Directions: Wash your hair and dry it thoroughly. Apply T444Z massaging into the scalp. Apply to the whole head once a week. For damaged areas such as bald patches and hair line, apply daily.

T444Z Hair FoodMy first impressions: This product comes in a small jar and weighs 150 grams. Having checked out what a 150 gram jar looked like already, the size did not surprise me when I received it. My friends thought I was kidding to still want it at a price of 5000 naira ($30) when they got to the agent and saw the size. For the price, they thought they were going to buy something real big....hhahhahahhaha!!
Likes:

1. It is all natural: 100% pure and natural. It is not easy to come by products which contain only natural ingredients which are all great for promoting hair health, growth, strength and thickness.
2. It is very fast and effective: Within a month of using this product, I realized my hair grew faster, thicker and felt stronger. I saw an increased decrease in the rate of breakage of my hair throughout the time I had been using this product.
3. Great Scent: The scent is sweet..I love it. I still can't pinpoint what exactly it smells like but it could pass for a flower scent.
4. Ease of Usage: It is solid at room temperature, but is very soft and melts as soon as your rub it on your fingers. It makes application very easy and a little goes a long way. Just as I use my oils, I just put a bit in my palm and apply it to my scalp with my fingertips. I make sure to complete my whole head with that little bit.
5. Lasts very long!! Imagine using a 150 gram jar of product for more than 5 months!! Yes, I used my first jar that long because you can use this product only once a week on your clean scalp and that's it. It still works perfectly. I never got to religiously using it more than once a week though I intended to do so with my subsequent jars if it was readily available. I realized I didn't need to. I however apply to my edges and nape as often times as I can in a week.

Dislikes:

1. Very expensive: This may depend on each individual but this product is surely one to be classified as expensive especially here in Ghana for the average woman. But since I use this product more than 3 months, it is as worth it as the many bottles of regular and deep conditioners or oils I buy and use within the same 3 months.

2. No seal: I was disappointed that a product that expensive didn't come sealed or in a great-looking jar and label. Hmmmmm....I was worried about it being a fake. But soon, after making lots of enquiries and contacts in efforts to bring it to Ghana, both for personal use and for sale; I was happy to find that this product is not sold in shops or online. Only through  a few agents in a few countries so it might be difficult to slip in fakes.

3. Scarcity: The biggest challenge is that though it is now available in Ghana for GHC 70, it is not as readily available as one would love it to be. The product has still not been officially launched in Ghana such that agents can be found easily. I currently know of only one agent in UK, who sends to Ghana to be sold through mini agents such as myself. Yes, though it is scarce, I am one of the people in Ghana from whom you can buy T444Z Hair Food. The awesomeness of this product......it was really hard to refuse the offer to be a mini agent.

So the BIG question: Would I buy this product again?

ABSOLUTELY!! I would buy this product again and again and again. Indeed, I have established as many contacts as possible with agents in most of the countries where it is sold. This is the product I would say helped me get optimum hair growth in the first few months of my hair journey and 8 months forward, I still love the results I'm getting. My hair has definitely grown a lot from neck length; past shoulder length, feels stronger and healthier; and is much thicker than before.

Call or whatsapp 020 1979795 for more details. Happy T444Z Hair I am.

Which hair product is the most expensive staple in your stash?

Weave Take Down!

Finally, I took out the curly weave after 7 weeks!! (Horrifying.....I don't keep weaves in for that long). I honestly didn't realise how much time had passed since wearing the weave as most of the weekends were full of activities for me. I totally lost track of how many weeks had passed.

As soon as I took out the weave, I got to detangling it with VO5 Moisture Milks and coconut oil that I had purchased that day, last Saturday. I was kinda amazed that there were very few tough knots to deal with as I detangled quite easily. So I just grabbed a big tooth comb and combed each detangled section out. I was sure I had detangled completely.

My sister advised me to prepoo (eyaaaaaa, she's becoming overly obsessed with everything hair....lol) overnight but I was feeling too tired to have to wait the next day to wash so I just prepooed for about an hour and then proceeded:

1. Shampoo washed with Odeon shampoo infused with onions.
2. Deep conditioned with Vitale Mayonnaise mixed with black castor oil made in Ghana which I call, Ghanaian Black Castor Oil (GBCO). You can't blame me....lol!! My hair totally loved this.

3. Followed with Kuza Indian Hemp Cholesterol (new addition, first use). The directions didn't say to sit under the dryer so I was confused a little. But I covered with a plastic bag, went under the dryer anyway for 10 minutes because I wanted my new growth to get as soft as possible.

My hair did not feel any softer than it was after I got out of the dryer. I realised that my hair had become very stiff and was matted. Yikeeeeeeeeeeeees!! I had just used the last bit of my Vitale Mayonnaise and I was totally freaked out.

What next? Crossroads..........................................!!

4. I decided to put in some Vitale Corrective Conditioner (new addition, first use) after reading the promises and hoping it will help somehow, covered with a plastic bag, sat under the dryer for 5 minutes and then rinsed out. It felt softer than before and I was relieved, but my hair had matted so bad.

Then I remembered watching and reading hair journey bloggers and vloggers talking about washing their hair in twisted sections!! My goodness...I should probably have washed my hair in sections!!

Coming up next: Weave Take Down continued.......stay tuned.

Has your hair ever ended up getting matted during a wash?

So, I just thought these pictures should do all the talking today.......

detangling after braid removal
Top bundle of hair after detangling right after weave, second ball after wash and rollerset.

Thought I lost a lot of hair this time...too much though I detangled as carefully and patiently as I could. Maybe post-partum hair loss issues coming up now..........

wash and deep condition
This was the hardest wash day I've experienced in a year!!

My hair matted real bad after I began washing it.....really, really bad!! Had to keep detangling all through wash process, even while rollersetting. It was so bad my sister had to help though she was quite scared of the puffed up new growth in the beginning.

Thank God I ended up with any hair on my head at all...believe me, I was totally scared but didn't cry this time because I knew African Hair Grows Long.......the main challenge is Length Retention and nothing else..........lol!!

Any advice to a new mama struggling with hair loss issues?

My joy knows no bounds!! I'm extremely grateful to the good Lord for giving me good hair....Yes, Good Hair....lol!! Though I am experiencing post-partum shedding, I still retained some length. I used a lot of products that helped but top of that long list are T444Z Hair Food, Hawaiian Silky 14-in-1 Miracle Worker, Vitale Mayonnaise.............and Coconut Oil!!

After another successful 6 month stretch, and a relaxer day that went well; here are my progress pixs:

Next day after wrapping my hair ....thanks for all your support. Your subscriptions, comments, likes are what keep me going....xoxo!!

I know that with time and patience, I will reach my goal of Armpit Length by December 2013. I just pray that my post-partum shedding doesn't give me a huge setback. I am going to do tea rinses every week without fail and use T444Z Hair Food more than once a week. Hopefully, that will help. I trimmed off about an inch off each section as I rollerset yesterday evening but the ends were still thin. May have to trim off some more but will wait for a week or two for my hair to recover from the relaxer shock...lol!!

I'm sure most of you have made a lot of progress too and I would love to share your progress with my readers. Please send a mail to ghlonghairstar@gmail.com. Let's journey on together.

Will I reach my Armpit Length goal by December?

Wash Day - Knocked Over!!

I was so excited about having some of my wishlist products; Aphogee Shampoo for Damaged Hair, Aphogee 2 Minute Reconstructor and Roux Porosity Control that I just had to have a wash!!

Ghanaianemprezz......thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks!

1. Preheated a mix of coconut oil and black castor oil; applied on scalp and hair for prepoo.

2. Massaged my scalp for 5 minutes and inverted my head for 5 minutes.

3. Covered with a plastic bag and scarf and went right to bed. Was too tired to continue.

So I woke up very early this morning to find that it was raining. Yeah right, bad ...but I'm gonna have my wash thanks to my hooded dryer for rollersets (Oh, I've not told you all about my Carmen Hooded Dryer...*huge grin*) or my fan if I want to air dry.......Got that "nobody can stop me" feeling......hahhhahah!!

hooded dryer

Somehow, surprisingly; I decided to set up the dryer first (assembled already, just kept the hood someplace real safe) so that I could get right into it as soon as my wash was done. And noooooooooooooooooooooo!! Only then did I realise that we had no power!! Today of all days!! Geeeeeeeeeeeeez, how much worse can my morning get.......My heart sunk.

wig regimen
Then came the light bulb moment.  I bought a new wig !!

So, my wash day just got knocked over...but thanks to the new wig....I'm loving it right now!!Can't promise not to tuck away my hair with all the rain these days........

Do you use wigs to save the day when you can't complete a wash?

My week has been hairmazing!! Yeah, I went shopping .....whooooop whoooop whooooopie!! I'm sure you're gonna scream when you see my stash.....and I need to add I'm not done yet so won't show for now. I'm still trying to get hemp oil and grapeseed oil.

I continued my wash the next day in this order:

1. Prepooed with Roux Porosity Control Conditioner (Oh My Gosh....where were you already!! *LOVE*)

2. Shampooed with ORS Aloe Shampoo (I love it desperately already).

3.  Deep conditioned with Kuza Cholesterol without heat. (Woooooow, it's a keeper!!)

Kuza cholesterol

4. I trimmed. I did this by sectioning hair as though to rollerset and then I trimmed off the thin ends. Most parts were about 1 inch long. I am yet to do my U-shaped cut and will get it done this Saturday by a stylist I had visited about a year ago to flatiron my roots. I saw how she trimmed off another customer's hair. She did well to trim in very small sections. But she took quite a lot off .....well, the ends were pretty bad........but the end result was really nice.

airdried hair

5. Applied T444Z to scalp, Hawaiian Silky Leave-in and IC Hair Polisher (New New New....Love Love Love) to 80% dry hair.

6. Moisturised with Hawaiian Silky 14-in-1 Miracle Worker and sealed with a mix of coconut oil and black castor oil.
sock bun hairstyle

 7. Styled my hair into a sock bun.

I'm very, very happy about all the new products I have bought. My hair hasn't rejected anything so far and I will review all products after using it for at least 3 months.

I have that good feeling about my hair though it is now shorter than armpit length. Then again, that goal is for the year and I still have 3 months more to get there. Oh, and see the colour now and how shiny it is!! Going to henna more starting this weekend.

My hair is shedding pretty bad but I'm not too worried about it. Life goes on....and my hair will grow back. I will continue to tea rinse, massage my scalp with black castor oil, apply t444z 2-3 times a week now, and take my prenatal vitamins more religiously. I am still taking Pregnacare Plus...with Omega 3.

Are you taking any vitamins or food supplements for hair growth?

Cheers,
Star.

Weekend Treat: Hot Oil Treatment

I have heard and read a lot about the benefits of hot oil treatments for hair but never got myself to really do one. I don't say, right? After much feet-dragging, I decided to finally give it a try...and I added a little twist to it.

1. I used mainly coconut oil, added a spoon of black castor oil and amla oil ....and infused it with black tea, chopped onion and ginger for about an hour.
2. I then put it in a saucepan which I placed in another pan with boiling water for about 10 minutes.

hot oil treatment

3. I applied the oil to my scalp with my applicator bottle and massaged for 10 minutes.

4. I applied oil to the length of my hair and made sure it soaked properly.

5. Covered with a plastic bag and sat under the dryer for 10 minutes.
6. Rinsed completely, soaked up excess water with a t-shirt and applied Organic Root Stimulator Replenishing Conditioner (New: Totally Awesome).
7. Covered with a shower cap, sat under dryer for 10 minutes and rinsed.
8. Wrapped hair in t-shirt for 10 minutes and left hair to airdry.
hot oil treatment

9. Applied leave-in, moisturiser, polisher and sealed with black castor oil.

RESULTS:
I loved how soft and silky my hair felt throughout this wash process. And the shine was amazing. It's a YES from me. Hot oil treatments are definitely going to be part of my regimen. Just have to come up with a way of incorporating it into my wash regimen. But seriously, do I have a regimen at all? Everything seems to have changed for me....new products, new practices, new recipes, new everything!! I just have to sit down; pen and paper in hand and work out a new regimen as the first one I had seems to have got the kick ages ago....lol!!

And I loooooooooooooove the volume I get when I airdry....hehehheheheehhe!!
Have you tried airdrying your hair without rollers? Results?

So here are my products so far:

I know, I know................Product Junkie?  But I need everything you see there........and I will definitely use most of these all up within 6 months. Less months for the conditioners, deep conditioners, moisturisers and oils.

Hair Musings!!

It's been like forever since I wrote anything. Ooooh...how I wish we had better internet services!! Blogging is not fun when it takes forever to upload pixs to a post. That's my BIG challenge now so just to let you know I have great posts coming right up as soon as my internet is fixed.

I've got Bad News and Good News!!

The Bad: I've been struggling with shedding and breakage these past 3 weeks since my relaxer. I find that I always have shed and broken hairs in my comb lately. It's been 5 months since my baby arrived. It's quite disturbing but I guess I can blame it on post-partum shedding and over-manipulation.  My hair has been too free lately....and I let my ends hang sometimes when I'm wearing a ponytail instead of tucking it under with hair pins.....just a few times ( a girl gotta show off a little) but I guess just a few times is bad for my hair. I had wanted to get braids but then I thought if my hair needed to shed, it will shed anyway. However, it doesn't come out in huge clamps so I must say my tea rinses and coconut onion oil may be helping a whole lot. It could be worse.....right?

The Good: I have stated a few times that my hair doesn't grow out quickly after a relaxer...sometimes takes up to a month to feel any new growth at all. But surprisingly, at just 2 weeks, I felt new growth! Thick, strong new growth!! And at almost 4 weeks, I see 1/3 inch already. That makes me very happy because in the past, I waited like forever before I saw or felt new growth.

Now what has changed in my regimen lately:

1. I mixed my T444Z with black castor oil....I know I shouldn't but it was getting finished; and since my order hasn't arrived, I just thought to mix it up to have a little more.....just a little more. And I absolutely love it.......!! Just discussing it with a few hair friends as well, I found that they mix it with black castor oil too when it's getting finished..............and it works. Going against the product usage directions...............hmmmmmmmm!!

2. I massaged my scalp with coconut oil and tipped my head over for 4 consecutive days after my relaxer. Yes...I was trying the inversion method but failed at completing the full week. I had second thoughts because after the full 4 minutes, I felt a little light headed each time. Maybe I could have got the full inch if I had done it to the end................hmmmmmmmmmmmm!!

Everything else was pretty much the same as far as my wash day regimen is concerned. Only BIG change is that I have shampooed every week instead of once a month as using the coconut onion oil in my hair cannot let me go scot free without shampooing. And indeed, it stinks real bad now as it's been almost a month since the ingredients were infused in the oil.

Time to prepare another concoction.......................whoop whoop!!

How long does it take to feel new growth after a relaxer?

I Got Bangs Me Trying to Love

I know I have said it several times on my facebook page that I won't get a trim from a stylist again. But I went again last weekend....well, thought I should get my hair all nice and neat for the hair meetup.

I had washed my hair that morning and after running a few errands and with the knowledge that there was power rationing, I decided to go to the salon an hour earlier than planned. I knew they had a generator so I was sure I was going to have a great hair day. I got to the salon which was not far from the event venue about 2 hours to the meetup and met stylists I had never seen before. Hadn't been there in over a year. I was pressed for time so I decided to stay.

I told the stylists to get my hair done as quickly as possible so I could go to the venue 30 minutes before time. She insisted my hair needed a wash because it smelt like "food" but y'all know where the food scent is from.....lol. I declined politely and asked her to continue. She applied a heat protectant and began to blow dry my hair which was 30% wet. Suddenly, the blow dryer and lights went off!! "Sweet Lord, not today"!! Then I remembered they had a generator so I relaxed and waited. After some minutes, a young lady came asking for money to go buy power. It was then I was told upon enquiry that the generator had broken down and the meter was out of credits so they were going to purchase some more.

So there I was, sitting in the chair with my hair in chaos with no idea when it will be all done. After a good 30 minutes, the young lady returned and power was restored. A look at the clock and I had 45 minutes to go. The stylist promised to complete it in time. She dried my hair completely with the blow dryer and asked if I wanted a trim. I wasted no time in responding, "YES!! Trim the ends a little".

Honestly, I was very distracted....was whatsapping and facebooking alongside so though I saw her section the front and hold it up, I thought she was deliberating on how much to cut. SNIP SNIP...I looked up and I was amazed and shocked she cut right where her fingers were.....a good 4 inches from the end of my hair ends!! She must have seen how wide my eyes went for she asked "Is it okay?". You've got to be kidding me!!

hair trim

Too bad the dirty had been done again!! No room for remorse, no room for tears. I just told her to trim only 1 inch from then on. She kept insisting she needed to trim more so I promised her I'd come right back to get it done.

I just thank my lucky stars she started from the front so the short part could as well be thought to be a deliberate cut.

Yeah, like bangs.

Once flat ironed, it really looked nice so I've decided to find ways to rock bangs. What choice do I have anyway...lol!!

When I got home, I took pixs of the ends and they were not straight at all. Maybe her scissors were blunt. What good is it if my ends are cut and they look uncut? A careful look at the pixs above and you can see the last 3 inches that have to go again in future.

hair trim

Yes, I have 2 relaxed textures....the old hair (abt 10 inches at the beginning of my hair journey, now 6 inches) and the new hair (abt 7 inches); and they look very different. I have been trimming the old hair off bit by bit over the past year as I didn't want to big chop my not-so-healthy hair from the start.

So, having been put to the measuring tape by a few of my fellow "Ghanalistas" my bangs are now 10 inches long.
how to trim hairThe rest of my head has about 12-13 inches of hair. Got an inch trimmed off all through.

how to trim hair

So, there! I can't make up my mind about chopping the old hair all off at once because as I'll say, it doesn't look like there's anything wrong with it once it is wet, dry, rollerset or flatironed.

How do you feel about trimming more than 1 inch at a time?

Cheers,
Star.

Spot the Difference: Trimmed twice

I have been asked several times in the past weeks why I kept trimming my hair. I'm always in ponytails so my tail got shorter and shorter......over the past month. "Why grow it and cut it away?". "You cut away all the T444Z Hair Food investment?" Hhahahahhahahahaha.....Let me show you why if you are new to this blog.

Honestly, I barely comb my hair all back now so it is hard to see the serious breakage I had in the last 6 months of my relaxer stretch. I decided to trim myself as often as I rollerset which is once in a while because I am hooked to airdrying. So after 2 self trims,I went from line skinny 8 to 6.........that's 2 inches off. I only trimmed what needed to be trimmed.

Then a visit to a stylist to get a trim got me a bang at the first snip and I asked her to trim up to an inch from then onwards. I guess she didn't trim as much either. And then I went to a salon last week and requested for a trim. Like I wrote on my facebook page, this hairdresser seemed to cut only what needed to be cut. She inspected each section of hair ends before she cut, just like I do so I think what she cut was very negligible... maybe a centimetre in a lot of sections because it was hard to see a difference when she was done.

So, I'm at line 6 now. Not as full as I would like but much, much better than before. My hubby, mum and sister, my greatest fans; made me promise to leave the scissors alone till March 2014. Their wish is my command.

I'm planning to braid by Saturday as I prepare for our T444Z Hair Food Challenge as proposed by members of our coooooooooolest but hair obssessed whatsapp chat group. In fact, it's about time!!

I'm the last person in the world to catch in a really cool hairstyle. Below is my boring signature hairstyle. But I have noticed with great pleasure I don't have as much flyaways as before. My hair is more obedient than ever before and the shine is incredible. I'm at a point where I LOVE MY HAIR .....gaining more length will just be icing on the cake.

So in a quest to impress a few hhj ladies I had to meet last weekend, I tried these styles...lol. The first was totally cool except I found only 2 bobby pins in my house!! Imagine!! Had to settle for the second which is just a new version of my signature hairstyle. I need some serious hairstyle inspiration.

Send a request to join our group to +233201979795....we would love to be joined by fellow hhj ladies from all over the world.

What hairstyle do you rock most with your real hair?

Star.
